Wiki: a collaborative writing tool

Traditional writing on a blank paper page is often considered by language learners a rather dull and demotivating task. So, I have recently created a wiki called fotinikom.wikispaces.com so as to make writing in English a more interesting and enjoyable process for my students. This platform is an online space where my students can create, add and edit content collaboratively at a comfortable pace. Students become real authors by getting engaged in process writing, constantly reviewing and reflecting on their written output. They seem to enjoy interacting with their peers and take pride in their final published text.

Storytelling tool

Storybird.com is an online simple and creative tool where you can make and publish your own story or just enjoy other authentic stories written by other users. The site offers a great variety of artistic illustrations to choose from and you can easily add text and more pages to your book.

As a teacher, you can create a class account and assign there writing projects for your students. The only thing you need is to let your imagination run free. To give you a taste, two of my students, Evi and Alexandros, worked on a greek story written by a mum and her little son and created “Fowl the owl”.

Enjoy storytelling!
